Right before the spring semester started, I proposed an idea to a friend of mine about doing a collaborative piece; two artists represented in one composition. He took the bait and after deciding on the surface, painting to-and-fro, late nights, and last-minute mailings, the piece was finished.

It was a great exercise for us both! From my end, I chose to go a more figurative route, because that’s a pretty easy/big bone to throw at another painter. I think Bill did a great job introducing several other mediums to the same space, in a somewhat homogeneous way. Me and Bill have plans for the future, the most immediate being a second attempt at collaboration on a bigger surface.

This summer, I’ll be looking for at least one or two more artists to collaborate with; the birthing of the series I’m calling Shared Space.

My grandpa John Van Loon, owner of many fine analog cameras, has passed this equipment onto me. This might be the tool that propels me back into photography, which I have been missing as of late. My grandpa was a career technical illustrator back in the day, and I’m hoping in a future update I can share some of his work with you. Some things run in the family.
